Welcome to Language Acquisition Lab!

Languages are highly complex and sophisticated systems, and understanding language acquisition processes can reveal a great deal about human language, cognition, development, education, and communication. In the Language Acquisition Lab at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, we investigate various aspects of first and second language acquisition, including, but not limited to:

  • the cognitive and psychological processes involved in language acquisition
  • the role of language input in language acquisition
  • the articulatory and acoustic properties of language learners’ speech

Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art software and recording systems
for investigating the speech production of language learners. It includes an
ultrasound machine, which provides a safe and non-invasiveĀ procedure for
examining tongue movements during speech production.
