Who We Are

The Peck School of the Arts (PSOA) Black & Gold Committee is composed of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from each of the school’s five academic departments as well as key administrative staff members.

Dean’s Advisory Committee members are solicited from department chairs and faculty, but interested students are also encouraged to nominate themselves by contacting their department chair. Meetings are held the first Friday of each month during fall and spring semesters in the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, RM 171.

What We Do

Established to give students a greater voice in the decision-making process on campus, representatives from each department in the Peck School of the Arts participate in monthly meetings with the Dean to carry out a student set agenda that addresses issues affecting the school. The committee is an important venue for students and the administration to work together on equal footing to help shape an exciting environment for learning and research at the Peck School of the Arts.

Your Vote Counts

Decisions on the expenditure of differential tuition funds are made through a transparent process involving the PSOA Black & Gold Committee, school faculty and staff, and annual department student surveys. Student and faculty representatives work together to develop and solicit their department’s annual student surveys.

Survey results are tabulated, examined, and weighed by the PSOA Black & Gold Committee, PSOA Dean, and department chairs to ensure the diverse needs of PSOA students are met in order to enhance education experience and satisfaction.

Quality Ensured

The submitted list of requests for differential tuition are also examined by the PSOA Dean and their administrative staff to determine whether requests can be satisfied without needing differential funding (either by school or department funds, laboratory modernization funds, or extramural funds).

The PSOA Black & Gold Committee also approved a plan in May of 2007 to ensure a balanced distribution of differential funds by instituting an election process for staffing a PSOA Differential Tuition Review Board. Each PSOA academic department elects two student representatives to serve on this board as well as the Black & Gold Committee.
