Course Description

Micrometeorology is the branch of meteorology concerned with processes occurring at the earth/air interface. In the course we address a variety of topics of relevance to weather forecasting, air pollution, and water/air exchange processes. Topics include energy budgets, turbulence, fluxes of heat, mass and momentum, the Ekman spiral, and wind profiles in the atmospheric boundary layer.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Become familiar with basic concepts in micrometeorology
  • Gain the ability to solve micrometeorological problems using appropriate quantitative physical and mathematical methods
  • Gain an understanding of the physical significance of quantitative micrometeorological concepts.

To comply with a Higher Learning Commission requirement, the course syllabus will provide information on the investment of time by an average student to achieve the learning goals of the course.

The amount of time that an average student should expect to spend on this class is given below.
