Professor Edward A. Beimborn, P.E. previously served as the Director of the Center for Urban Transportation Studies at UW—Milwaukee and Professor of Civil Engineering.  Professor Beimborn has worked with numerous local, regional, state, and federal agencies including the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, various State Departments of Transportation, the National Bureau of Standards and the U.S. Department of Transportation.  These efforts have focused on projects such as the planning and operation of mass transit systems, transportation planning methods, the design of transportation facilities, analysis of the impacts of transportation systems on the environment, evaluation of transportation systems, and procedures for effective research utilization.

Professor Beimborn has extensive experience in the development and offering of training programs for public transportation and transportation planning.  He has more than 30 years of experience in the teaching of graduate and undergraduate courses in transportation and has taught more than 100 continuing education courses on topics such as transit planning, urban transportation planning, transit management, technology transfer, environmental impact assessment and others.  These have been offered on-line as well as on site training programs.

Dr. Beimborn is the author of numerous articles about the basics of transportation planning which have used extensively at universities and public agencies to provide an introduction to transportation planning and transit operations.  Dr. Beimborn has developed basic information on Public Transportation. This includes 19 modules dealing with such topics as operations planning, new starts procedures, transit route location, and transit analysis procedures.

Professor Beimborn received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering (Transportation) from Northwestern University.  He is a past Chair of the Transportation Research Board Transit Planning and Development Committee.  This committee oversees transit planning research and publication internationally.  In addition he is past national chair of the Transportation Planners Council of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
