Over the years, UWMRA has served our retirees with vibrant, continuing involvement with campus and UWM outreach venues.

Overview

Retirement is an opportunity to continue one’s new relationship with our UWM campus community. Through presentations, interest group activities, up to date communication regarding anything pertaining to our status as State Retirees/Annuitants, UWMRA strives to provide for you information and opportunities to engage and enjoy! History

UWM was formed from predecessor institutions in 1956. The Retired Faculty Association (RFA) was formed shortly thereafter in December 1961. Inspired by retired faculty who expressed a desire to stay engaged in the UWM community, the RFA’s formation was supported by the UWM Faculty Welfare Committee. This committee met on several occasions in the Fall of 1961, had resounding support from then Chancellor J. Martin Klotsche, and on December 7, 1961 sponsored the first organizational meeting. The interim chair was John Lazenby (Director of Secondary Education-Retired). The first official meeting of the RFA was held on February 7, 1962. As of May 2012, the RFA was opened  up to all retirees and renamed UWM Retirees Association. The Retirees Association includes all of UWM’s faculty and staff. Download the PDF of UWMRA History here.

Our 50th Anniversary

In 2011 we celebrated out 50th Anniversary of the UWM Retirees Association. The program booklet is filled with historical data (including photos) as well as personal recollections from a group of faculty/staff. Download the PDF of UWMRA 50th Anniversary Overview here.

Acronyms

During communications, we tend to employ acronyms for commonly used titles, organizations, legal entities, etc. Hence, “Alphabet Soup!” This table provides a list of those acronyms, their full names and URL’s (web links). We can edit the list as needed, as changes occur. Download the PDF of Acronymns here.
