Student Investment Club at UWM

The Student Investment Club is where any UWM student may help to decide where to invest real money in stocks.  Our fund is at $135,000 in January 2022 and varies every day.  Our top 6 stocks now are Apple, Microsoft, Bristol Myers, Coke, JP Morgan Chase, and Nvidia, all with $5,000 or more invested.  But our portfolio includes about 30 stocks and ETFs.

The weekly club meetings expand the knowledge and understanding of its members in the areas of investing, finance, and the economy.  Students “pitch” reasons to buy a new stock or to sell a stock in our current holding sometimes in groups of a few students.  Students then vote to buy and sell stocks that were pitched.

Professors Der-Ann Hsu and Dick Marcus were the founding Faculty Advisors of the club.  Professor Hsu has since retired. I continue to be the Faculty Advisor to the SIC since its beginning in 1998.  We meet in N120 in Lubar Hall on Monday nights at 8:15pm and Thursdays also at 8:15pm in Spring 2022.
