October 2021 – May 2022.  Harvey was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to work in Malawi, teaching at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and conducting research in collaboration with the Malawi Department of Fisheries and the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

January 27, 2021.  Great Lakes Now, which is an initiative of PBS and Detroit Public TV, featured our research in a recent documentary that explores how invasive quagga mussels are changing nutrient dynamics and community structure in Lake Michigan.  See the video here.

 

Dec. 2, 2020.  The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) today released the IUCN World Heritage Outlook 3 report, which documents the status of all World Heritage sites.  The detailed conservation outlook for the Lake Malawi National Park World Heritage Site, which Harvey contributed to, is also now available.

Dec. 7, 2020.  The Invasive Mussel Collaborative made available a press release with details about an experimental quagga mussel removal project we inititiated in 2019, in collaboration with Limnotech, the National Park Service, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

 

Sep. 2, 2020.  Surface temperatures of Lake Michigan were exceptionally warm in the summer of 2020. Here’s a link to an article published in Milwaukee Magazine.

For several years we’ve been conducting a study in Lake Michigan near Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore to understand how invasive quagga mussels are affecting the structure and function of the nearshore ecosystem.  Recently Chioma Lewis, a journalism student at Michigan State University, published an article describing some of this work.
