Dhirendra Sikdar Scholarship in Atmospheric Science

UWM Distinguished Graduate Student Fellowships

UWM Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowship

This fellowship provides support for new and continuing graduate students at UWM who are a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate study; are a first-generation college student who is considered to have a high financial need; or are a student with a qualifying disability. A stipend of $16,000/yr ($18,000/yr at the doctoral level) is offered and the scholarship is renewable for up to three years. Applications are typically due in late December. AMS Graduate Fellowships

AMS Graduate Fellowships are offered to students who will enter their first year of atmospheric science M.S. studies in the fall. They provide a $25,000 stipend and partial travel support to the AMS Annual Meeting. Approximately ten to fifteen awards are made per year and applications are typically due in January.
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

This program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported disciplines who are pursuing research-based M.S. or Ph.D. degrees. Awards include a $37,000/yr stipend for three years as well as a tuition and fee waiver. The number of awards varies per year and applications are typically due by late October.
UCAR Next Generation Fellowships

UCAR Next Generation Fellowships are awarded to graduate students (prospective or continuing) from underrepresented communities who are interested in Earth System Science, Diversity and Inclusion, or Public Policy. NASA Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST)

The FINESST Program provides support to students conducting research to meet NASA’s scientific goals in the Earth and Space Sciences. Approximately fifty awards are made to students in Earth Science disciplines per year, with each including $24,000-$30,000/yr stipends for three years. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship

ASP’s postdoctoral program provides an opportunity for recent-Ph.D. scientists to continue to pursue their research interests in the atmospheric and related sciences. It is one of the most prestigious post-doctoral fellowships in the field. Approximately ten awards are made per year, with each being a two-year award worth $60,000-$62,000 per year. Applications are typically due in January.
NOAA Climate and Global Change (C&GC) Post-doctoral Fellowships

The overarching purpose of this program is to help create and train the next generation of leading researchers needed for climate studies, particularly in scientific areas relevant to NOAA’s Climate Program Office. NSF Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Post-doctoral Research Fellowships

These fellowships are awarded to highly qualified investigators within three years of obtaining their PhD to carry out an independent research program. The program supports researchers for a period of up to two years with fellowships that can be taken to the institution or national facility of their choice. Approximately ten awards are made per year. Applications can be submitted at any time during the year. A stipend plus allowance (to cover tuition, fees, and other costs) of $100,000-$102,000 per year are awarded with each successful fellowship.
National Research Council (NRC) Research Associateship Programs

Through a national competition, the NRC recommends and makes Research Associateship awards to outstanding scientists and engineers, at the postdoctoral and senior levels, for tenure as guest researchers at participating federal laboratories. Applications are developed in conjunction with a host at the proposed institution of study and are due on February, May, August, and November 1 of each year. Stipend amounts vary per sponsoring institution.

NOAA/GFDL and Princeton University Post-doctoral Program

The program is intended to support research in the atmospheric and oceanic sciences and offers a stimulating environment in which to conduct independent research and/or to collaborate with resident scientists on problems of theoretical or practical interest.
