The e.polis allows two types of submission:

  1. Submission to the Yearly Issue (student academic journal) – published in the Fall;
  2. Submission to the e.polis page (e.polis Currents) – published continuously.

1) Submission Guidelines for the Yearly Issue

Submissions fall under three categories: a journal-length article or literature review, a book review, and a short essay.

Journal-length Article or Literature Reviews

  • Articles and Literature Reviews need to include a one-paragraph abstract
  • We encourage the use of photos, maps, and other multimedia formats
  • No longer than 30 pages

Book Review

  • Should provide the title, author, and full citation above the first paragraph
  • No longer than 5 pages

Essay

  • An essay submission can review a research trend, pose a research question/propose a research agenda, review a theoretical framework, or offer a short commentary on an urban-related topic
  • No longer than 5 pages

Formatting

  • Submit electronic file as Word document
  • Double-spaced
  • 12 pt. font
  • Left-aligned margins and no columns
  • One inch margins
  • Style conventions should be appropriate to the discipline the author writes in
  • Block quotes should be single-spaced
  • All articles and essays should include abstract (200 words max)
  • No cover page
  • Footnotes allowed. Single spaced, 9 pt. font
  • One space after periods
  • Every paragraph should have half-inch space indentation (Tab default)
  • On page 1: Listing each authors’ affiliation
  • Supplemental online material. Supplemental material can be a video, dataset, fileset, sound file, or anything else which supports (and is pertinent to) your paper. Supplemental material must be submitted for review upon paper submission. Additional text sections are normally not considered supplemental material.
  • Figures. Figures should be high quality (600 dpi for black & white art and 300 dpi for color). Figures should be saved as JPEG or PNG. Figures embedded in your text may not be able to be used in final production.
  • Tables. Please supply editable table files. We recommend including simple tables at the end of your manuscript, or submitting a separate file with tables.
  • The heading convention should follow the style that the author is adopting.

Consent

  • Material submitted to this e-journal implies consent by the author to allow e.polis to edit and publish submissions online.
  • Third party material. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce third party material from other sources.

 

2) Submission Guidelines for the e.polis page – “e.polis Currents”

Submissions fall under four categories: thought piece, reaction piece, digital humanities project, short essay.

 

Thought Piece

  • 2 paragraphs
  • Must reflect on a timely urban related theme
  • We encourage the use of photos, maps, and other multimedia formats

Reaction Piece

  • 2 paragraphs
  • Must react to a urban related policy
  • We encourage the use of photos, maps, and other multimedia formats

Digital Humanities Project

  • Should be submitted with a 2 paragraph introductory piece reflecting on the projects’ goals, methods, content and findings
  • The project can be embedded in the e.polis page, or the introductory piece will be linked to the page where the project is originally allocated

Short Essay
