Fredrik O. Andersson is Assistant Professor of Public and Nonprofit Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management, and Senior Fellow with the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, University of Missouri – Kansas City. He is also a Research Fellow with the Stockholm Center for Civil Society Studies (SCCSS) at the Stockholm School of Economics. Fredrik came to UWM from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, where he received his Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in public affairs and entrepreneurship from the Henry W. Bloch School of Management. He also spent one year as a postdoctoral researcher with the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

Fredrik’s research centers on (social) entrepreneurship in the nonprofit sector, with a particular focus on new nonprofit emergence and start-up development issues. His most current research, together with Michael Ford at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, considers the entrepreneruial dynamics of the voucher school population in the City of Milwaukee. Fredrik also conducts research on nonprofit boards and governance, with a focus on board behavior, governance in nonprofit start-ups, and the role, structure, and implications of power as it relates to nonprofit governance. His work has appeared in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, Policy Studies Journal, Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations, and other outlets.

Fredrik is the current coordinator for the HBI Research Colloquium Series where UWM faculty, UWM Ph.D. students or invited speakers present research focusing on a broad array of topics related to nonprofit and civil society studies. The series is an opportunity for academics and practitioners to get together to hear about and engaged in critical conversation about essential issues impacting our community and nonprofit sector at large. The colloquium is free to the public. Fredrik also serves as a contributing editor to the Nonprofit Quarterly, a leading nonprofit practitioner-oriented magazine that provides current research-based articles for nonprofits about management, governance, policy issues, and philanthropy.
