Mechanics of Self Healing Structures

Motivation

  • Self -healing Materials have seen great promise and advancements in recent years and shape memory alloy reinforced material structures are capable of recovering geometry after fractures with large deformations.  However the strength properties of these systems after healing are minimal.

Goals

  • This project is seeking to explore methods to improve self healing capabilities and residual strengths after healing.
